Highlighting this special performance are two of DCK’s most distinguished alumni, returning to Nairobi after years of training abroad. Keri Yamane, remembered for her roles as Clara and the Dew Drop Fairy in The Nutcracker as well as soloist performances in Coppélia, Cinderella, and Cats, is now training at the acclaimed Ballet School in Brussels. Eugene Ochieng, a standout performer known for his roles as the Nutcracker Prince in The Nutcracker and Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, returns after two years at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Eugene’s inspiring journey from Kibera, Nairobi’s largest slum, to international stages reflects DCK’s commitment to providing opportunities for talented dancers from all backgrounds to soar.
In 2023, Keri and Eugene competed together at the International Ballet Competition in Mesagne, Italy, representing Kenya and Japan. Their stunning performances earned them a gold medal, bringing pride to both their nations and showcasing the exceptional talent nurtured at DCK.
The production will feature award-winning costumes designed by Nathalie Fussilo and her team at Palacina Interiors, adding opulence and elegance to this visually stunning ballet.
Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s iconic score, Romeo and Juliet tells Shakespeare’s tragic love story through breathtaking choreography adapted by director Cooper Rust, vivid storytelling, and thrilling sword fights. The ballet is an ideal date-night experience for Valentine’s Day, while also offering students studying Shakespeare an extraordinary opportunity to witness his timeless work brought to life through dance.
Recommended for audiences aged 8 and older, this production promises to captivate with its romance, drama, and artistry
